I live in UK and, at the time of writing this bio, my female Rottweiler (Shadow) was living with me, keeping me sane. Sadly, Shadow passed away in November 2010, aged 10yrs, but I mention her because you will hear more about Shad if you stick with us in NervousNewbies.

I've been working online from home since July 2001. I created NervousNewbies.com in January 2002, and started my newsletter, later titled "The 5Ns", the following month.

The intention was to help internet novices by providing good information as guidance on making money from home on the Internet. More about that on our "About Us" page (linked at the top of this page).

There was a lot more to my varied working life before coming online. In fact, only recently I finished writing a short and true story about the ups and downs of starting and running your own business.

In brief, my working life started at 16yrs of age, as an office junior. School holidays saw me working as a waiter in a fast food establishment for three seasons.

At the opposite end of the timescale, you might like to know that I'm not a young pup, but a "boomer". Not overly aware of my age, but it seems I now qualify for a FREE bus pass and FREE prescriptions!

My last occupation was Chiropodist, also known as Podiatrist, and an expertise of Reflexology is an added bonus. Healthcare is a field I fell into in recent years, as a matter of necessity and good foresight.

I had no prior interest or real knowledge of Healthcare in that way. That is, no interest other than the natural awareness we all have in that. Most of my working life was spent in all aspects of office work.

First experience of the "steady job" myth came after just 18 months in my first office job. The company was taken over and I was no longer required. Good fortune put me with a better company as office junior before the other firm closed. smiley face

For over 21 years I worked for the same shipping Company where I started as office junior and finished as office manager. Married at 18 with our first child at 19, not long after starting at the shipping office.

Our second child, a daughter, came 6yrs later and divorce came after 21 years married, 24yrs together.

I hadn't been exposed to the works of Napoleon Hill at that time, but later I was to read his classic, "Think and Grow Rich", in which he states, "Every adversity has within it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit".

Hill's statement is very true, although it sometimes requires a lot of searching to find the seed. After divorce, my new lover died tragically after just 15 months together, leaving two teenage children.

Those 21yrs with the shipping company were split service. A short but intended career as a police officer was followed, less than 2 years later, by return to my old company on invitation. They invited me back with promotion, enhanced remuneration and belated recognition. smiley face   smiley face

During the second spell I became self-sufficient, to a degree, as a mobile DJ outside of office hours. It was great for 10 years and I loved every minute.

That was a first taste of having your own business. Money was good and many times my wife went with me. After we separated I sold my equipment. Kept the discs though!

Shortly after divorce I left my long-term employer. A new lady came into my life and we moved to the North-west to start our own business... rather, our adventure.

To say that we spent a period of 7 years on trying a variety of own businesses, in a variety of JOBs, self-employment, and canvassing is not doing justice.

From retail shop owners to starting a residential care home, property transfer, various MLM opportunities... it was quite a ride. It seems to trivialise the experience by summarising it like this, and you really should take a look at it here.

That brings us full circle to becoming a Chiropodist/ Podiatrist and Reflexologist in my own successful private practice for 10yrs, then retiring to start a new business (ad)venture online. The rest is yet to be told.

One thing to note is the fact that all my working life has been spent in a service occupation in one way or another. From waiter, through Police Officer, customer relations as office manager, mobile DJ, and then on to store proprietor and care home proprietor with my late partner.

Finally... the ultimate "hands on" profession last occupied. Excuse the pun. And now to serve in yet another way, if you allow me.
