| Hello... and Welcome.
Thought-provoking clips and moving messages sent in a while ago by Penny, a young lady in Kuala Lumpur, prompted the creation of this area. "Brian's Story" is such a piece, and it heads the list in the index on the left.
Inspired by Penny's kind gesture, I thought others might like to read it and reflect on "Brian's Story". It certainly made me think about times when and where I might have fallen short in some areas of life.
Raised in a Protestant family, events in my teenage years caused me to drift away from any organised religion. So I'm not overly religious and this section isn't about religion, nor is it directed to comply with any particular religious dogma. But, I have to admit it... "Brian's Story" brought a tear to my eye.
So I posted "Brian's Story" and added a second item. Written to honour my dear Mother shortly after her passing in August 1995 at 88yrs of age, "Full Circle - A Mother's Love" is a poem that was published in print.
My first attempt at writing verse, other than "idiot verse" or the odd, silly limerick, was published in a hard-cover poetry book in 1998. Successful publishing in the "real world" moved me to create this area to share some of my other works. As you'll see ... the list continues to grow.
Personal verses, based on personal experience, come when they come. Sometimes, as with the recent departing of an aunt, a verse comes to serve an urgent or immediate purpose. Mostly the words come into my head when walking with my K9 buddy, Shadow.
You will relate to some of the sentiments expressed in these verses, other verses - possibly not. Personal taste and opinion is as varied as we are, as individuals, and the verses offered here reflect my own individuality.
No doubt they will never achieve recognition at the same level as the works of Wordsworth, or Ogden Nash, but they've helped the writer. I hope they help the reader likewise.
There's so much emphasis placed on getting rich and the dream of a big Million Dollar Business that we tend to spend far too little time reflecting and being grateful for the many blessings we already have. Or is it that we're so darn busy that we just don't recognize those blessings?
The purpose of this page and the poetry section is twofold. On the one hand it might bring comfort, amusement, and cause you to reflect and be grateful. The other purpose is to show that there's a use for the chatter that constantly goes on in your own head, and how to use your mental chatter to, maybe, help others.
Without any formal training or high-flying academic qualification it shows what can later be achieved by someone with an average education and the will to succeed. You just have to be aware of your thoughts (mental chatter) and put them into words.
"Until We Meet Again" was written for personal comfort after the tragic loss of a loved one in 1988. In 2002 that poem was shared with a lady in Australia whose young son had passed, following a long period of illness and disability..
The lady returned a personal note of gratitude, saying that the words were in keeping with her departed son's own view of life. The poem gave her comfort, and that made the sharing very rewarding to me emotionally.
There's much more to success than just making money, and I hope this section achieves its purpose. Maybe it will give you the encouragement to put your own words on virtual paper. Most importantly, I hope you enjoy your visit and gain something from it. Even if just a few minutes to relax, read, and reflect.
So there you have it. The contents of this area are my own feelings and thoughts transcribed into words and constructed in such a way that they rhyme. They also have a rhythm which, as I was taught as a child, is known as poetry. These offerings might not be everyone's idea of poetry, but I can live with that.
Some of the stuff that passes as poetry these days is as closely related to poetry as art is related to a stuffed animal suspended in formaldehyde. But then... as I said, "personal taste and opinion is as varied as we are, as individuals".
I can only hope that your taste is roughly similar to mine and that you enjoy your visit. If you do, then I hope you return. And if you don't have a similar taste, or if you don't like what you find, well...
Love and Light to all who drop in.
